Most accountants have only ever seen a business from the outside, through the numbers. Carl Scuderi has sat in the owner’s chair.
Carl joined Xact as a Client Director, bringing a Chartered Accounting background and around 20 years’ experience operating inside businesses as a Financial Controller and CFO. He started his career at PKF Chartered Accountants, where he qualified as a CA and worked closely with clients across construction, contracting and project management.
From there he moved into commercial roles, building and running finance functions across warehousing and distribution, property management, retail and FMCG, and logistics. He has also owned and run his own distribution business. So, when he talks about the pressure on a time-poor owner, he is speaking from experience.
That mix is the point. Carl operates at two levels at once: hands-on in the detail when a business needs it and stepping back for the strategic view when an owner needs to see where things are heading. Project-based work, where the margin lives or dies job by job, is familiar ground, and it is the same discipline that decides whether a construction business makes money.
What drives him is a simple idea. The right systems, technology and financial insight should make decisions easier, not harder. Used well, they hand owners back their time and give them a clear line of sight on a business that is sustainable, healthy and profitable.
