Succession Planning and Equity Structuring Series (Part 2): Breaking up, handing over and selling up.
At some point in the life of a construction business there will need to be a change in ownership structure. This can happen for a range of reasons. It may be that two people who started the business together are no longer seeing eye to eye and have decided to head separate ways. It may be that it is time to start watering down to the next generation, with a view to an eventual exit.
This session deals with how those arrangements are handled.
Part 2 stands on its own and does not assume you attended Part 1. We open with a short recap and point you to the Part 1 recording.
What we cover:
- Business structure: how a change in ownership is handled inside the group, and what a change in control means for your QBCC licence.
- Tax: what the tax implications are, whether the change is one partner leaving or a staged transfer to the next generation.
- Navigating the change: how owners work through what is some of the most difficult activity they will face in the business, and how far ahead it needs to start.
- The role your advisers play: how the commercial, tax and legal landscape is mapped out, and what sits with your accountant and what sits with your lawyer.
Who this is for:
This session is for owners of construction businesses who have a partner wanting out, who are thinking about handing the business over inside the family or to their management team, or who can see themselves selling up in the next few years.
The session runs for 60 minutes and is recorded. Everyone who registers receives the recording, whether or not they attend live.
